Our experience enables us to restore even heavily bent or twisted Simplex rudder stocks to their original specifications. If the rudder stock is twisted, we have the machine capacity and the welding procedures approved to weld up the existing keyway and machine a new one.

Case study: Rudder Equipment Repair

Massive makeover: 40- ton Rudder Repair and new Rudder Stock to steer ahead

MarineShaft carried out a comprehensive rudder repair on a bulk carrier. The scope included repair of the 40-tonne rudder blade and the manufacture of a new rudder stock, pintle, and bearings.

The rudder blade was transported by sea to MarineShaft, where 3D measurement was used to assess deformation and define the repair. Specific plates were renewed, and welding was performed to re-build the blade structure.

The new rudder stock, pintle with shrunk-on sleeve, and bearing housings were manufactured and blue-fitted to ensure precise alignment with the steering gear.

On-site in Portugal, our service engineers supervised the installation, including casting of the rudder horn bushing and full alignment of the rudder system. Class: NK.
