Repair and straightening of Simplex rudder stock and manufacture of a new tiller

Not so often we come upon these simplex rudder stocks, however over the years we have repaired and straightened many. Very often when a Simplex rudder stock is damaged it gets twisted. This was also the case with Kestrel II, however we know how to solve this ”little” problem. The rudder stock from Kestrel II was sent by truck to our workshop and the repair included among others straightening, welding, heat treatment, machining of rudder stock bearing area, closing existing keyway and milling of new keyway. We machined the tiller cone to remove ovality and deformation and manufactured a new tiller key in C45 material. The job was classed by LRS surveyor.
